Thomas William Murray was born in Austin, Texas on February 3, 1947, to Thomas Walter Murray and Marguerite Shell Murray. Raised in the ranch lands of Georgetown, Texas, he learned early the value of hard work, integrity, and caring for others.
On May 24, 1969, Tom married the love of his life, Linda Robertson, in Plains, Texas . For 57 beautiful years, they built a life rooted in adventure, resilience, and unwavering devotion. Together they raised three children and created a legacy of love that continues through generations.
Tom graduated from Georgetown High School in 1966, where he proudly played football, and later earned a double degree in chemistry from Sul Ross University in 1970. His sharp mind was matched by his steady hands and willing heart.
He was a loving husband “Bubba”, Daddy, and “Poppy”—a sweet, kind soul who showed his family how a gentle man can profoundly impact generations. Whether working cattle, fixing up a project, lending a helping hand, or simply listening with patience and care, Tom lived with quiet strength and steady compassion.
At a young age, Tom developed a deep love for adventure, shaped by long days of hard work on wide-open ranch land and farms filled with animals—yet he always managed to save a little time for an adrenaline rush behind the wheel of a fast car. He carried that beautiful balance of responsibility and fun throughout his life. Whether he was building something with his hands, chasing a new horizon, or simply enjoying the ride, Tom embraced each season wholeheartedly. From creating meaningful memories with his family to traveling across the United States in an RV and enjoying cruises with Linda, he truly lived life to the fullest—steadfast, joyful, and always ready for the next adventure.
He loved the outdoors, DIY projects, and speaking to nature and creatures alike. Tom never met a stranger. He made lifelong friends wherever he went—even counting a ghost named Jorge among his acquaintances. His sense of humor, curiosity, and community spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ann Elizabeth; his infant son, Thomas Richard; and his beloved daughter, Cindy Ella. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his daughter, Christi Yancey; his son, Thomas Murray; his cherished grandchildren, Kirsten, Sierra, Jayden, Cheyenne, and Thomas; and his precious great-granddaughter, Brynlee. He also leaves behind John (“Bit”) Robertson and Rene Robertson, along with many lifelong friends who were blessed by his steady presence.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine, Texas.
In remembrance of our dear “Bubba”, be an inspiration to your generational family. Love others the way he did—gently, faithfully, and without hesitation. That is a legacy worth carrying forward.
