Pam was born on February 23, 1949, in Atlanta, Texas, to Morris Shepard Cash and Maggie Mildred Patterson Cash. She grew up surrounded by family and strong values that would guide her throughout her life.
She attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1969. Pam began her teaching career in Edna, Texas, and over the next 33 years, she dedicated herself to education in several Texas communities. She loved working with children and found great joy and purpose in shaping young minds. Teaching was more than her profession—it was her calling.
Pam was first married to Basil Shields for 11 years, and together they welcomed two daughters, Amy and Dana. In 1982, she married Samford Walter Miller, Jr. Their 43 years together were filled with devotion, partnership, and shared adventures. Through her marriage to Sam, Pam became a loving stepmother to Trey Miller, Jim Miller, and Robin Miller Paul, embracing her blended family with warmth and grace.
A faithful member of Southland Baptist Church, Pam was actively involved in her Women of Faith Sunday School class and supported numerous church ministries. Her faith was the foundation of her life, evident in her kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit.
Pam and Sam enjoyed playing golf together and traveling to beautiful destinations including California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Jamaica. She fondly celebrated her first birdie on a scenic par 3 in Jamaica—a memory she cherished.
Pam also had a deep passion for antiques. She delighted in searching for extraordinary treasures and spent many years buying, refurbishing, and selling antiques in Longview, Uvalde, and San Angelo. Her eye for beauty and history brought her both fulfillment and friendships.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samford Walter Miller, Jr.; her brothers Johnny Morris Cash, George Edmond Cash, and Tommy Jay Cash; and her sisters Patty Cash Hobbs, Nelda Cash Cummings, and Nancy Cash McWilliams.
Pam is survived by her daughters, Amy Shields and Dana Shields and husband Craig Gutierrez; her stepson Trey Miller and wife Amy; her stepson Jim Miller and wife Trudi; and her stepdaughter Robin Miller Paul and husband Toby. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Cash Shurtleff.
Pam’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jimmy Miller and wife Imelda; Montgomery Miller and wife Laurel; William Miller; Steven Miller and wife Kristen; and her great-grandson, Sammy Miller.
Pam will be remembered for her strong faith, her servant’s heart, and the unwavering positivity she shared with everyone she encountered. Her life was marked by love—for her family, her church, her students, and her community—and that love will continue to echo through the many lives she touched.
