Maria Alicia Franco, 76, of San Angelo, Texas, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Public Viewing will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday, February 27, 2026 with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, Febraury 28, 2026 at Templo El Calvario with Pastor Mauricio Franco, Jr., officiating. Burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
She was born on June 6, 1949, in San Angelo, Texas, to Fermin C. Lerma and Lucia D. Lerma. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Diogenes Franco, on September 3, 1971, in Ballinger, Texas. Together they shared 54 beautiful years of love, faith, and partnership.
She served the San Angelo Independent School District Food Service Department for 21 years, serving homemade bread and desserts at Glenmore Elementary, Holiman Elementary, and Rio Vista Elementary and always served with a warm smile. She cherished the opportunity to serve breakfast and lunch to the students each day.
On Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984, she received the Lord Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior under the ministry of Pastors Raymundo & Maria Hernandez. This decision shaped the rest of her life, as well as the lives of the generations that followed after her. Alongside her husband, she devoted herself to ministry and missionary work. On December 6, 1987, they founded the first Christian church in Otates, Landa de Matamoros, Querétaro, Mexico. She faithfully served as Director of Missionettes for Christ and as a deaconess at Centro Evangelistico for nine years under the ministry of Pastors Maria & Antonio Lucio.
She was a prayer warrior who loved to pray for peoples' needs. She believed in the power of prayer according to the scripture in Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
On May 25, 1993, Maria and Diogenes, together with their children Reina, Mauricio Sr., and Tabitha, established Mision Evangelica in San Angelo, Texas. She served as a Sunday School teacher for ten years, lovingly leading children to Jesus Christ through Bible stories and songs. In 2005, they moved to Templo El Calvario, where she continued serving alongside her husband as he pastored the congregation entrusted to him by God.
She was a devoted prayer warrior who deeply believed in the power of prayer, standing firmly on the promise of James 5:14: "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."
In the fall of 2016, her family and church began packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes in memory of her beloved grandson, Immanuel James Cordero. She found great joy in gathering school supplies, removing tags, folding clothing, and carefully preparing each box with love.
Maria was a loving and compassionate woman who welcomed everyone as family, from her children's friends to her grandchildren's friends. She was known as "Mom" to her children, "Tia Licha" to her nieces and nephews, "Wela" to her older grandchildren, "Grandma" to her younger grandchildren, "Hermana" to her church family, and "Doña Licha" or "Mary Alice" to her friends.
She was anticipating the birth of her great-granddaughter, Laeli Milagros Lucio.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The testimony of her life, her faith, and her love will continue to shine through future generations to come.

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Revelation 3:11 "Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown."
She is survived by her husband, Diogenes A. Franco; Children, Reina Franco, Mauricio & Laura Franco, Diogenes & Ramona Gloria and Tabitha & Adam Cordero; Grandchildren: Mauricio Franco Jr., Marina & Adam Lucio, Marisa Franco, Isabelle Gloria, Ezekiel Cordero, Samuel Cordero & Abel Cordero; sister, Grace Ponce and Brothers Fernando D. Lerma & Efrien D. Lerma.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hernandez, Roy Hernandez, Eduardo Franco, Justin Murillo, Miguel Soto, Daniel Soto, Jacob Soto.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Cordero, Adam Lucio and Ezekiel Cordero.

El velatorio público se realizará de 10:00 a. m. a 8:00 p. m. el viernes 27 de febrero de 2026, con un servicio de oración a las 6:00 p. m. en la Funeraria Robert Massie. El servicio fúnebre se realizará a las 10:00 a. m. el sábado 28 de febrero de 2026 en el Templo El Calvario, oficiado por el pastor Mauricio Franco, Jr. El entierro se realizará posteriormente en Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Nació el 6 de Junio de 1949, en San Ángelo, Texas, hija de Fermin C. Lerma y Lucia D. Lerma.
Se unió en matrimonio con el amor de su vida, Diogenes Franco, el 3 de Septiembre de 1971, en Ballinger, Texas. Juntos compartieron 54 hermosos años de amor, fe y compañerismo.
Sirvió al Departamento de Servicio de Alimentos del Distrito Escolar Independiente de San Ángelo durante 21 años, ofreciendo pan casero y postres en las escuelas primarias Glenmore, Holiman y Rio Vista, siempre con una cálida sonrisa. Apreciaba la oportunidad de servir el desayuno y el almuerzo a los estudiantes cada día.
El Domingo de Resurrección, 22 de Abril de 1984, ella recibió al Señor Jesucristo como su Señor y Salvador bajo el ministerio de los Pastores Raymundo y María Hernández. Esta decisión marcó el resto de su vida, así como la vida de las generaciones que vinieron después de ella. Junto a su esposo, se dedicó al ministerio y a la obra misionera. El 6 de Diciembre de 1987, fundaron la primera iglesia cristiana en Otates, Landa de Matamoros, Querétaro, México. Sirvió fielmente como Directora de Missionettes para Cristo y como diaconisa en el Centro Evangélico durante nueve años bajo el ministerio de los Pastores María y Antonio Lucio.
Ella era una guerrera de oración que amaba orar por las necesidades de las personas. Creía en el poder de la oración según la escritura en Jeremías 33:3: "Clama a mí, y yo te responderé, y te enseñaré cosas grandes y ocultas que tú no conoces."
El 25 de Mayo de 1993, María y Diógenes, junto con sus hijos Reina, Mauricio Sr. y Tabitha, establecieron la Misión Evangélica en San Ángelo, Texas. Ella sirvió como maestra de Escuela Dominical durante diez años, guiando con amor a los niños hacia Jesucristo a través de historias bíblicas y canciones. En 2005, se mudaron al Templo El Calvario, donde continuó sirviendo junto a su esposo, mientras él pastoreaba la congregación que Dios le había confiado.
Ella era una devota guerrera de oración que creía profundamente en el poder de la oración, apoyándose firmemente en la promesa de Santiago 5:14: "¿Está alguno enfermo entre vosotros? Llame a los ancianos de la iglesia, y oren por él, ungiéndolo con aceite en el nombre del Señor".
En el otoño de 2016, su familia y la iglesia comenzaron a empacar cajas de Operation Christmas Child en memoria de su amado nieto, Immanuel James Cordero. Ella encontraba gran alegría al reunir útiles escolares, quitar etiquetas, doblar ropa y preparar cuidadosamente cada caja con amor.
María era una mujer amorosa y compasiva que recibía a todos como familia, desde los amigos de sus hijos hasta los amigos de sus nietos. Era conocida como "Mamá" por sus hijos, "Tía Licha" por sus sobrinos y sobrinas, "Wela" por sus nietos mayores, "Abuela" por sus nietos más pequeños, "Hermana" por su familia de la iglesia, y "Doña Licha" o "Mary Alice" por sus amigos.
Ella estaba anticipando el nacimiento de su bisnieta, Laeli Milagros Lucio.
Será profundamente extrañada por todos los que la conocieron y amaron. El testimonio de su vida, su fe y su amor continuará brillando a través de las futuras generaciones por venir.
