Dr. Koste Belcheff of San Angelo passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Alex and Bertha Belcheff.
After obtaining a PhD at The Ohio State University, where he was a marching band member and later a conductor, Koste began a career as a music educator and conductor that included serving as a professor at Oberlin College, a teacher and assistant dean at the University of Arizona, and the Head of the Department of Music and Art at Angelo State University. Koste had two children, David and Alexandria, with his first wife, Jeanne. He also remained close to the children of his third wife, Mary Ann, who preceded him in death. Koste was fortunate to spend his last twenty years in marriage with Margie Belcheff of San Angelo. Koste and Margie were active church members, and in his golden years Koste channeled his passion for music into conducting the Cokesbury Choir at the First Methodist Church of San Angelo.
Memorial services will be held at the First Methodist Church on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Koste is survived by his wife, Margie; his children, David and Alexandria; David’s wife, Tanya; his grandsons, Antonio James and Sean; as well as stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
