Carlene DeLane Tankersley, age 84, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. She was born on April 11, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas, to Clinton and Leona Woody.
Carlene attended Monterey High School and Jackson Private School, graduating in 1959. In 1979, she began working at The Woolhouse in Mertzon, Texas. Later, she partnered with her sister-in-law, Cynthia Tankersley McCammon, to open KC Blue Boutique in Mertzon.
A talented artist, Carlene found joy and peace in painting, especially landscapes. She believed strongly in the importance of buying good brushes, and never the cheap ones! Her creative eye extended beyond the canvas and into her everyday life. Known for her elegant sense of style, Carlene brought grace and charm to every room she entered. She loved entertaining and was always ready to open her home to friends and family.
Above all else, Carlene’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She poured her heart into her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her love for them was the foundation of her life.
Carlene was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Leona Woody; her grandparents; many beloved aunts and uncles; and her loyal canine companion, Brutus Max.
She is survived by her loving children: Brett Reynolds and wife Denise of Abilene, Todd Reynolds and Ella Nichols of Carlsbad, and Leslie Reynolds of Mertzon. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Brett J. Reynolds and wife Jess of Houston, John Reynolds of Abilene, Stephen Reynolds and wife Kelly of Winters, and Megan Corley and husband Caylor of Mertzon. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Walker, Ava, Jameson, Kellen, Wyatt, Georgette, and Charlotte.
Carlene is also survived by her cherished dog, Crissy, and many dear friends who she valued all the special times with.
A memorial service celebrating Carlene’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Mertzon, Texas.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Regency House and Angels Care Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
