Frances May (Haire) Mathews, 90, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away on Tuesday August 19, 2025.
She was born on December 20. 1934 in Lamar County, Texas to Arvel E. & Frankie Vernie (Crump) Haire. Frances earned a GED and later a cosmetology certificate from Jolly Beauty College. She then began her career as a Beautician working for herself at Petite Beauty Shop.
Frances married Jackie on July 3, 1952 and had 2 children. The two remained together until Jackie’s passing in 2020.
Frances was also a member of Belmore WMU and had a passion for sewing and crocheting. She will always be remembered for her beautiful handcrafted quilts, crocheted capes, doilies, and crosses.
Frances was preceded in passing by her parents, Arvel and Frankie Haire; brothers, Robert Norris Haire and Donald Lee Haire; husband, Jackie Bailey Mathews; infant son, Neil Jack Mathews; and son-in-law, Rodney Edward Fischer.
Left to cherish Frances’ memory are her daughter, Deborah (Mathews) Fischer of Harker Heights, TX; grandchildren, Matthew Fischer of San Angelo, TX and Jacqueline Rae (Fischer) Codner of Harker Heights, TX; great-grandchildren, Carson Wayne Codner and Rebecca Kay Codner, both of Harker Heights, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Sunday August 31, 2025 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 AM on Tuesday September 2, 2025 at Belmore Baptist Church with interment to follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers are Greg Buchanan, Matt Fischer, Dusty Lilley, Carson Codner, and Aaron Haire.
In lieu of flowers, the Mathews Family asks that you make a memorial donation in Frances’ name to the San Angelo Women’s Shelter.
