Phillip Hernandez, 84, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at his home in San Angelo.
Public viewing will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. Viewing and Visitation will be on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a parish vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM all at the Church. Interment will follow the mass in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas.
Mr Hernandez was born May 1, 1941 in Tula Tamaulipas, Mexico. Phillip was a resident of Ellis, Kansas for many years where he was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus. He married Romanita Rodriguez on January 14, 2004 in San Angelo. They later moved to San Angelo for the past 12 years, where he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Phillip worked as a rig operator for Shirk Well Service for many years, then went to work for Hembree Well Service for several years, and then worked for Gressel Oil Field Service until his retirement at the age of 71. He loved doing work around the house, anything that needed fixed he was always eager to fix. Phillip was a "jack of all trades".
Survivors include his wife, Romanita Hernandez of the home; a son, Marty Hernandez and wife Kim of Beloit, Kansas; two daughters, Amanda Hernandez of Wichita Kansas and Amparo Hernandez of Mexico; three stepdaughters, Connie Villarreal of San Angelo, Mary Helen Fernandez and husband Ernest of Amarillo, and Romanita "Romy" Macias and husband Greg of San Angelo; his siblings, Elvira Hernandez-Espinoza, Martin Hernandez, Nicolasa Hernandez, Jose "Pepe" Hernandez, and Leonor Hernandez; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Rick Hernandez, a stepson, Joe Villarreal, Jr., step-daughters, Micaela Villarreal Moreno and Estefana Villarreal, his siblings, Hipolito Hernandez, and Isabel Hernandez.
The family would like to thank his healthcare nurse, Jessica Carrillo, and Inhabit Hospice nurse, Jennifer Zapata.
Phillip's pallbearers will be; Ernest Fernandez, Jose "JoJo" Nava, Petty Hernandez, Hector Hernandez, Joshua Hernandez, and Marty Hernandez.
