Bertha was Born on October 25, 1941, to Isabel and Chon Hinjosa in Mertzon. Bertha was a proud 1962 graduate of Irion County High School. She married Pablo Montez, the love of her life, on January 22, 1966 in Mertzon, he preceded her in death on February 22, 1993. Together, they raised three children and built a home rooted in love, respect, and God's teachings. She was a lifelong member of St. Peters Catholic Church.
Bertha dedicated her life to nursing, a calling she embraced proudly and fiercely. She worked at Meadow Creek Nursing Home for 20 years, and then she went into private care, retiring in 2015. She treated every patient with dignity, always going the extra mile to ensure they felt seen and cared for. However her care extended far beyond hospital walls-into her church, her town, and her home. She was a woman of deep conviction, whose faith in God was unshakable and whose joy was found in the simplest of blessings time with grandchildren, cheering for the Irion County Hornets and Dallas Cowboys, or sharing laughter during church gatherings and gambling trips with family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Pablo Montez, Jr. and wife Brenda of San Angelo and Miguel Montez of Mertzon; her two grandchildren, Kara Estrada and husband Samuel, and Jess Pruitt and wife Beth; and six great grandchildren, Eli, Jersey, Grady, Paulee, River, and Sammie; her siblings, Gus Hinjosa, Olga Munoz, Linda Valencia, and Rey Hinjosa.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. Bertha is preceded in death by her daughter, Isabell Montez, her parents, Isabel and Chon Hinjosa, and her brother, Alfredo Hinjosa.
We extend heartfelt thanks to Shannon Oncology, Dr. Cheruku and staff, and Concho Hearts Hospice for their exceptional care. Their compassion gave us precious time and comfort in her final years.
