Catarina Garza Castorena, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in San Angelo, at the age of 97.
Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Joey Faylona, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mrs. Castorena was born on May 22, 1928, in Melvin, to Eugenio and Estefana Garza July 8, 1946, Caterina married the love of her life, Moses Castorena. They shared 50 beautiful years of marriage before his passing in 1996.
Catarina was a woman of deep faith and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her generosity and devotion were evident in the joy she found through donating items to the church, which gave her a sense of continued service and spiritual presence.
Catarina spent much of her life self-employed for over 50 years and homemaker, where her loving and selfless nature truly shined. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She never missed a moment to remind them how deeply she loved them.
She also spoke often and fondly of her siblings, nieces, and nephews, holding them close to her heart throughout her life.
Catarina's legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her loving son, Robert G. Castorena, and Chandra Barrientos, who cared for and supported her in her final years; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Monica Gloria and husband Jonathan, Stefanie Gaytan and husband Juan, and Christopher Castorena and wife Margaret; Catherina was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Mariah Gloria, Brandon Castorena, Jonandrew Gloria, Adrianna Hernandez, Brianna Hernandez, Fabian Hernandez-Gaytan, and Randi Martinez; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jose Roman, Autumn Roman, Mariposa Dominguez, John Gloria, Treyton Gloria and Nyla Campbell; and one new great-great granddaughter soon to be born in August 2025.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them through the years, especially the many family members and friends who have offered their love and kindness.
Catarina was known for her warm smile and kind greetings-she loved to say hello to anyone who spoke with her. Her gentle spirit and joyful heart will be dearly missed by many.
