Russell Martin Timberman II, lovingly known as "Pops," passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 80 in San Angelo, Texas. Born on September 22, 1944, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Russ was the son of Russell Martin Timberman Sr. and Esther K. Timberman.
Pops proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the National Guard. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a skilled vehicle mechanic and carpenter. He had a passion for building and racing stock cars.
A true family man, Russ never met a stranger. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite football teams, watching NASCAR, shooting pool, and anything Harley-Davidson. A devoted coin collector, he took joy in sharing his collection and stories with others. Each day, Pops could be found outside with his beloved dog Dozer on his lap, waving to passersby — a simple moment that captured the heart of who he was.
His kindness knew no bounds. Pops was generous, loyal, and always the first to lend a helping hand.
Russ is preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Russell Martin Timberman III and Joseph Michael Timberman; his brother, William "Billy" Timberman; his sister, Carla; and his former wives, Patricia Picone and Charlotte Timberman.
He is survived by his children: Stephanie Timberman (Heather), Winters Dawn Cortez (Mario), Billie Jo Jennings (Patrick), and Jennifer "Jenna" Hight; his grandchildren: Andy, Adam, Matthew, Stephanie, Jessica, Kevin, Liz, Kaitlyn, Michael, Russell, Patty Jo, Joseph, Chase, and Ashlyn; and 14 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Russ is also survived by his siblings: Rita Brotzman, Carrie Cigna, Dorey Smith, Hatch Timberman, Harold Timberman, and Tommy Timberman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to William Ranallo, Michael Ranallo, Lind Waters, and Casey Hight for the love and support they showed Pops throughout his life. He cherished each of you and held you close to his heart.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Pops' life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Russ Frasier. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
