Billye Jean Joyce went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday,April 27, 2025, in San Angelo.
She was born April 12, 1927 in Brownwood to Ivy and Edna (Tate) Mayfield. She was the 3rd born of 6 children. They lived in Santa Anna, Abilene, and settled in Talpa for most of their childhood. It was in Talpa that she met the love of her life, Jack Joyce. They were married October 14, 1945 and moved to McCamey. They welcomed two sons, Larry and Hal, during their time there. She made a profession of faith in Christ at First Baptist Church of McCamey on January 7, 1050 and was baptized into the church. In 1953 the family moved to Big Lake where they became a vital part of the community for 59 years. She served wholeheartedly in the First Baptist Church and participated in the Garden Club and Investment Club. She worked in the banking industry for over 32 years, taking care of customers and offering excellent service. Travel was one of Billye's favorite pastimes, and she even became a travel agent after retiring from banking. She traveled to many places across the globe with her friends and family. Jack and Billye enjoyed 63 years of marriage before he went to Heaven in 2008. She moved to San Angelo in May 2012 with her son and daughter-in-law, Hal and Vicki Joyce and became a member of Southland Baptist Church. Her J.O.Y. Sunday school class became a vital part of her life. Billye was very strong in her faith and deeply believed in the power of prayer.
In her fifties, she dedicated herself to being physically fit. Most mornings, you would find her on the walking track at 4:30 AM before going to work. She had a fitness trainer that she met with on Zoom all through the years. According to him, she could hold a "plank" in her nineties better than most of his 40 year old clients. She was faithful to exercise daily up until March of this year. Part of that routine included crawling, which she had fun doing with her great grandchildren!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy & Edna Mayfield; husband, Jack Joyce; and son, Larry Wayne Joyce. Also preceding her were her brother, Bruce Mayfield and three sisters, Laverne McDonald, Pat King, and Dorothy Ratliff.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Carolyn Mayfield of Palm Springs, California; her son, Hal Joyce and wife Vicki of San Angelo; grandchildren, Melissa Wood and husband Kelly, Jack Alan Joyce and wife Christy, Laura Kohutek and husband Jeremy, and Amy Miller and husband Daniel; great-grandchildren Haley Moore and husband Justin, Reagan Wood and fiance Brandon Wolfe, Sage and Jett Joyce, Emma, Alyssa, and Jackson Kohutek, and Addison, Harper, and Landon Miller; and great-great-granddaughter Lakyn Moore.
