James "Denny" Allen, 85, of Knickerbocker passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Allen was born on November 16, 1939 in Byers to Herman and Faye Heasley Allen. Denny graduated from San Angelo High School in 1957 and joined the U. S. Navy. He was honorably discharged. Denny was a bull rider, steer wrestler, and a clown/bull fighter. In the early 1970s, he started Larry Mahan's Cowboy Collection of boots and clothing. Denny was a general manager for oil and gas companies throughout his career. Later he ran the Bay Point Resort and Marina in Marblehead, Ohio. Denny also sold cars at Mitchell Buick for a number of years.
He sailed around the world in a sailboat and was an accomplished airplane pilot. Denny had a big personality and was always quick to tell stories about his adventures. He was a cowboy at heart and always had his cowboy hat with him. Denny was a Christian and over the last 10 years really grew close to Christ.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lita Allen McDonnell.
Denny is survived by a daughter, Lori Eichhorn and husband Scott of Austin; his brother, Ricci Allen and wife Beverly of Knickerbocker; 2 grandchildren, Michael Mc Donnell and wife Marilyn of Tulsa and Matthew McDonnell of Aspen, Colorado; and a great grandson, M.J. McDonnell of Tulsa.
