Rose Mary Smith was born on July 19th, 1930 to Guy & Emma Stockdale of Council Grove, KS. Rose was raised in a loving home with a brother & 4 sisters. She loved watching fights with her dad, going fishing & spending time with her siblings. She attended K-High School in Council Grove & upon graduation Rose went to work in Civil Service for the Department of Defense, where she remained for 30 years. During her time in Civil Service her brother Guy introduced her to Duane A. Smith, who would later become her husband of 61 years. They were married on October 6th, 1956 & raised 2 daughters, Coralie & Collette, and son Kerry. They lived in numerous places while raising their family, as Duane was active duty in the US Military, before settling in San Angelo, TX where they would live out the rest of their lives. Rose was an active member of her church, Harris Avenue Baptist Church, where she served, worshipped, and sang in the choir for more than 20 years. Rose loved not only her family, but her church family and many friends she had made over the years.
Rose is preceded in death by her brother, Guy E. Stockdale, her three sisters, Donna Warren, Mickey Pharm & Patricia Thompson. She is also preceded by her husband Duane Smith & daughter Coralie Miller.
Rose is survived by her sister Vicki Ronzello (Reggie) of New Hampshire, daughter Collette Cuellar (Oscar) of San Angelo, and her son Kerry Smith of San Angelo. She is also survived by her grandson Steven Emfinger, granddaughters, Amy Dougan (Joey) and Sara Teague (Derek) all of San Angelo. Rose is further survived by several great grandchildren, one great-great grandson & several nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday April 21, 2025 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday April 22, 2025 at Johnson's Funeral Home with interment to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Emfinger, Stetsen Emfinger, Joey Dougan, Miller Dougan, and Derek Teague.
Rose was a loving daughter, sister, mother & grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who loved her & remembered by those whose lives she touched in kindness, faith & love.
