Matthews "Matt" Brown was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and follower of Jesus. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he lived a life full of faith, kindness, and generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Known for his kindheartedness from an early age, Matt was protective of his siblings and formed lifelong friendships with those he played alongside on Pine Hollow in Houston. His contagious laugh and warm spirit brought joy to everyone who knew him.
Matt knew he wanted to be a rancher, a dream sparked when he was just 11 years old. Spending summers on the beloved Lambshead Ranch in Albany, Texas, he learned the value of hard work—something that defined his character and life. Matt became a lifelong rancher, raising Beefmaster cattle and meat goats, and his love for ranching was unwavering. A proud graduate of Texas Tech University, he also enjoyed cheering on Texas Tech football. His appreciation for all of God's creation was evident in everything he did, from his passion for fishing to the care he gave to his land and livestock.
Not only was Matt passionate about ranching, he also had a love for surfing—an uncommon pairing for someone who became so dedicated to life as a rancher. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was boundless, whether he was hunting, fishing, surfing or working the land. Matt especially loved taking his granddaughters around the ranch, showing them wildlife and livestock, and teaching them how to shoot and fish. These moments brought him great joy and exemplified his love for nature and the world around him.
Matt served his community as a dedicated county commissioner for 14 years and was a longtime resident of Eldorado, Texas. He faithfully attended the Presbyterian Church of Eldorado, where his commitment to his faith and community shone brightly. His love for Jesus guided his actions and inspired those around him. Matt will be remembered for his laughter, generosity, and steadfast devotion to his loved ones, his faith, and the ranching way of life he cherished.
Matt was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Christy; his three children— Courtney Snyder and husband Chad and their daughters Phoebe, Poppy, and Palmer, Lauren Stewart and husband Ryon and their daughters Meryn, Berkeley, and Annemarie and Wes Brown and wife Macy and their daughters Ruby and Tessa. He is also survived by his mother Susan Judd Brown, sister Ardon Brown Armstrong and husband Tobin Armstrong, Jr, brother John Overton Brown and wife Georgia Carter and many nieces and nephews.
