James Franklin Pickett, affectionately known as “Bubba” to family and friends, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2025, at the age of 43. Born on July 31, 1981, in San Antonio, Texas, he was the younger son of C.V. and Marguerite (Luther) Pickett.
James spent his early years in San Antonio and Lubbock before his parents eventually settled in San Angelo, where James graduated from Lake View High School in 1999. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Angelo State University in 2004. He began his career in New Braunfels with marketing, but known as a highly skilled "Jack of all Trades," James worked in various fields including graphic design, and a lease operator in the oil field. He later found his passion as an Insurance Broker and future partner at Zesch & Pickett Insurance, working alongside his mother and brother.
A dedicated and active member of his community, James was a beloved parishioner of St. Therese Catholic Church in Carlsbad. He participated in “That Man is You,” a Catholic men’s leadership program, and was a member of a local men’s Catholic fellowship and study group. James was a devout man of faith, who truly lived out his love for God and others in his everyday life.
Above all, James was a devoted father. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them. Although he spent much of his time working hard, he also made space in his life for the people who meant the most to him. James had a deep appreciation for a variety of music genres, enjoyed attending live music performances, and cherished the moments spent relaxing with close friends and family. James will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his faith, his family, and his work. His spirit of service and love for those around him will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
James is survived by his wife, Jovan; his three sons, Dylan, Wyatt, and Callum; and his only daughter, Emerson Louise. He is also survived by his parents, C.V. and Marguerite; his brother, Jason, and his wife, Sheila, all of San Angelo. James is further survived by seven aunts, six uncles, and was, himself, an uncle to six nieces and five nephews. He was deeply loved by many in-laws, cousins, friends, and fellow parishioners. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Clyde and Neva Louise Pickett, and John and Josephine Luther, along with other beloved family members.
A Visitation, Vigil and Rosary will be held at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, on Sunday March 16th at 5:00 PM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Monday, March 17th at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Meals for the Elderly, San Angelo.
James will be deeply missed by all who loved him, but his memory will live on in the many lives he touched with his kindness, faith, and love.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen”
