Mae Ella Cummings, age 79, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was born on October 9, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, to Charlie Pullen and Learline Williams. A lifelong resident of San Angelo, Mae grew up in the city and attended its public schools.
She worked as a house manager for Dr. Leslie Williamson and her husband, Jim Cogan, for 34 years while also caring for their two children, Jonesy and Stephen Cogan. Mae was a devoted believer in Christ.
Although she lived a private life, Mae was a deeply thoughtful and empathetic person who was fiercely protective of those she loved. She was independent and outspoken, always patient but never afraid to share her perspective with kindness. In her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping for shoes, getting her nails done, chatting on the phone, and spoiling her family.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles and David Pullen; her sisters, Madeline Pullen and Nancy Murphy; and her son, Jeffrey Cummings.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Pullen of San Angelo; her sisters, Irene DeVore and Charlotte Williams of San Angelo, and Carolyn Greene (Everett) of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by her sons, James Cummings (Aida) of Raymondville, TX, and Darrell 'Bear' Cummings of San Angelo, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Shannon Medical Center for their compassionate care.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm, at Harper Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 10:00am, at Harper Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
