Jane Douthette Hardy Gay passed away peacefully on February 19th, 2025 at the Reagan County Care Center, Big Lake Texas. Jane was born on March 9th, 1933 in Eutaw, Alabama. She married John Clyde Gay, the love of her life, on January 1st, 1950 in Mississippi, and within months they moved to Big Lake, Texas. Together they started Gay & Young Motor Company, which they operated until 1979. She worked as a loan officer at Reagan State Bank for many years and later became the Reagan County Auditor, serving the county for 19 years until her retirement in 2000. She had a love for volunteering and was always active in the community and First Baptist Church where she was a member for 74 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Clyde Gay Sr., her mother Ethel Hales Hardy, her father William C. Hardy, her sisters Lillian Barton, Polly Pope, Madelyn Middleton, and Grace Wood, her brothers Clarence Hardy, Billy Hardy, Horace Hardy, and Jimmy Hardy.
She is survived by her children John Clyde Gay Jr (Sherri), Bobby Alonzo Gay, and Nina Jane Hallmark (Larry), grandchildren John Trent Hallmark (Tanya), Bryan Scott Hallmark (Andrea), Ryan Neil Hallmark, Eric Lynn Hallmark (Renea), Crystal Dawn Barton (Brian), Sarah Jane Taylor (Christoper), John Irving Gay (Kate), great-grandchildren Brenna Jean Guerra (Miguel), Bethany Jane Hallmark, Hayden Trent Hallmark, Cole Andrew Hallmark, Carly Grace Hallmark, Hunter Clyde Hallmark, Addison Shae Hallmark, Faith Lynn Hallmark, Brandon Eric Barton, Bradley C. Barton (Abbey), Kirsten Dawn Barton, Kaden D. Nicholas Killough, Zachary Grahyson Slade Killough, Elliott Clyde Gay, Daniel Irving Gay and Molly Jane Gay.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025 at 2pm, First Baptist Church in Big Lake with Pastor Gerald Bastin presiding, followed by graveside service at Glen Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are Trent Hallmark, Bryan Hallmark, Neil Hallmark, Eric Hallmark, John Gay, and Hunter Hallmark. Honorary Pallbearers are Cole and Hayden Hallmark.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Big Lake, Texas. The family would like to thank the staff of Reagan County Care Center in Big Lake for their kindness and care for our mother.
