Betty Lou Keel Arnold, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend passed away Feb. 12 at the age of 87.
Betty Lou was born to Aubrey and Grace Keel on Feb. 16, 1937. Betty Lou graduated from Lake View High School in 1955 and while a student, made a name for herself on the basketball courts where she showed tremendous talent. Her love of basketball and all sports continued throughout her life and she always knew who was playing whom.
Betty Lou married Freddie B. Arnold on March 29, 1956 and they were married for 55 years and four months before his death on Sept. 2, 2011. They had two sons, Freddie B. Arnold, Jr. and Robert Keel Arnold. Betty Lou and her husband lived in San Angelo, Grape Creek and Christoval.
Betty Lou worked for 13 years for Dr. Roundtree and then for 25 years at Lake View High School where she affected the lives of countless students and teachers. She retired in 1996 and spent her time at "the place" in Christoval until her husband's passing. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and also dedicated numerous hours to delivering meals for Meals For The Elderly.
Betty Lou moved to Rio Concho West across the street from her brother and sister-in-law in 2012 and immediately became a part of that community. She had a standing hair appointment on Thursdays, attended monthly birthday dinners, never missed a Saturday bingo game and, in recent years, loved the T.V. show Yellowstone and Kevin Costner. In 2015, she adopted her beloved puppy dog, Hank, from the Humane Society, after seeing him on television. The two were inseparable! Betty Lou was known to her friends and family for being and outstanding cook, cooking meals for herself well into her 80's and making her special Christmas cookies which were her niece's favorite!
Betty Lou is survived by her son Freddie B. Arnold and wife Nancy of Goldthwaite, her son Robert Keel Arnold and wife Lisa of San Angelo, her niece Kristin Cade and husband COL (R) Larry Cade of San Antonio, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and her beloved puppy Hank "the Hankster"
Preceding her in death were her parents Aubrey and Grace Keel, her husband Freddie B. Arnold and her beloved sister-in-law Cynthia Keel.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 5-7 pm at Johnson's Funeral Home at 435 W Beauregard Ave in San Angelo, Texas. A funeral service will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Humane Society of San Angelo.
