Antonio Tapia Talavera, 97, of San Angelo, passed away on February 9, 2025.
After graduating from high school, Antonio worked for Allied Van Lines for many years before pursuing a career in barbering. He graduated from San Angelo Barber College and went on to work at a local barbershop. In 1972, he opened his own hair salon.
Antonio married Margaret S. Carmona on July 12, 1953, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and community. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. Antonio was also dedicated to volunteering his time and energy to various organizations, including the San Angelo Emergency Corps, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Cathedral School, South Side Lions Club, and Bobcat football chain crew.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Carmona Talavera, on November 14, 2006. Antonio is survived by his daughter Myra Talavera, his son Mark Anthony Talavera, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Victor of Chicago and Manuel of Denver, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Bonilla Talavera and Manuela Tapia; his son Perry Lee; brothers Jesus and Jose (both killed in action during WWII); brother Diego; and sister Lupe Martinez. He was also preceded by his sister Elida and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers for the burial will be Cian Talavera, Christian Talavera, Jayden Hernandez, Julien Hernandez, Jorden Hernandez, and Alex Rios.
A Rosary will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
