Alex Papoutsas, 89, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2025.
Alex was born November 13, 1935, in San Angelo, Texas, to Sophia and Alexander Papoutsas. In 1965 he married Sylvia Warren. He and Sylvia were blessed with 59 happy years together.
Alex was a 1954 graduate of San Angelo High School and attended San Angelo College. In high school, he started a 37-year career with Safeway Food Stores. He later worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety and, along with his wife, owned and operated Sylvia’s Shave Ice, also for 37 years.
As a young teenager Alex became a licensed amateur radio operator and enlisted in the Naval Reserve as a radio operator after high school. He served as a reservist for eight years and remained an active HAM for the rest of his life. He was forever treasured and was treasured by his HAM family.
Alex is preceded by his parents and a beloved sister, Rita Poulos.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Christina; and a cherished extended family. A memorial celebration will be held on a later date.
