Doris Young Pool, of San Angelo, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2025 at the age of 103.
Doris was born July 21, 1921 to W.C. Coke Rutherford and Lula Rodgers in Gatesville, Texas.
At age 7, she moved with her family to San Angelo where she attended Santa Rita Elementary and graduated class of 1939 from San Angelo High School.
Doris began dating James Howard Young and they were soon married in 1940. Together they raised two sons, Jimmy and John, and enjoyed 45 wonderful years together until Howards passing in 1985. Doris was introduced to her second husband, Ira Pool, while in Sunday School at Immanuel Baptist Church. They were married in 2000 and enjoyed 15 years together until his passing in 2015.
Affectionately known as "Grandma" to her family, she was a loving, caring, wife, mother and friend. She loved to adorn her walls with pictures of her grandchildren and family. Grandma devoted her life to her Lord and savior and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 83 years.
Grandma always had a funny joke or a good story to tell, and no one could tell it better. Grandma loved to fish and always caught the most. She enjoyed winning at dominoes and playing 42. Grandma was always dressed impeccably and never missed a sale at Dillard's.
Grandma is predeceased by her parents; her sister, Bobbie Wilson; brother, Dell Rutherford; spouses James Howard Young and Ira Pool; son Jimmy Dell Young; and daughter in law, Sharon Young.
Those left to cherish her memory is her beloved son John; daughter-in-law Lynda Kaye Young; grandchildren Jay, Todd (Michael), Jennifer; Mark (Jennifer), and Holly; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.
Special mention to Jacqueline and Brittney from Interim Hospice for all the loving care and support provided for our Grandma.
Service will be on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 2pm, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 90 E 14th St, San Angelo, with Ryan Buck officiating. Burial to follow at Lawnhaven Cemetery.
