Maria Araiza Aguilar of Mertzon, 86, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024.
A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3rd at St. Peter’s Catholic church in Mertzon. Burial will follow in the Mertzon Cemetery.
Maria was born on April 7, 1938 in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico to Consuelo Fernandez de Araiza and Jacobo Araiza. She married Adan Aguilar on February 15, 1954. They had five children. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Maria will always be remembered for the wonderful care she provided for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a passion for crochet, embroidery, and cooking for her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Carmela Quintero of Uvalde. She is survived by her two sons, Manuel de Jesus Aguilar of San Angelo and Juan Antonio Aguilar and wife, Mary Helen, of Barnhart; three daughters, Maria Acosta and husband, Albert, of Mertzon, Gricelda Aguilar of Mertzon, and Lidia Flores and husband, Vicente Jr, of Mertzon; four granddaughters, Cassandra Acosta, Clarisa Elliott, Sofia Mojica, and Katlynne Aguilar; and seven great-grandchildren, Daniella Aguilar, Dylan Aguilar, Aiden Flores, Jacob Eli Acosta, Einin Flores, Oliver Elliott, and Isabella Mojica.
Pallbearers will be Arnaldo Acosta, Catarino Rico Jr, Aiden Flores, Jesus Gonzalez, David Flores, Lorenzo Rico. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Eli Acosta, Micah Elliott, and Vicente Flores Sr.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses of Hospice of San Angelo, Candy, Johnny, Diana, and Adriane, for their support and care. The family would also like to especially thank Alicia Flores and Rachel Davis for the comfort they provided.
