Roberta Farmer Marsh, a devoted mother, accomplished professional, and cherished member of the San Angelo community, passed away on Sunday, November 24th.
Born on November 27, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ellen and Robert Farmer, Roberta grew up in a loving household that nurtured her values of compassion and determination. A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, she pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Women’s University in 1969 and later achieved a Master of Business Administration from Angelo State University in 1989.
Roberta balanced her career in nursing and infectious disease control at both Saint John’s Hospital and Shannon Hospital with the demands of raising three active boys. Her dedication extended beyond her career to her community, where she became a cornerstone of service and leadership. Roberta was a proud member of the Junior League of San Angelo and served on the local boards of a variety of organizations, including the Concho Valley Home for Girls, United Way, Hospice of San Angelo, Girl Scouts, and the San Angelo Soccer Association. She also dedicated 11 years to the San Angelo Independent School District Board, including three as President, demonstrating her passion for education and the betterment of future generations.
Family was the heart of Roberta’s world. She delighted in watching her three boys grow into successful family men and cherished every moment spent with her nine grandchildren. Her love for horses, gardening, and bright red cardinals that visited her frequently reflected her deep connection to nature and beauty. She also loved the arts, including the symphony and the children’s theater where she spent many volunteer hours building sets.
Roberta had high standards for herself and others, inspiring everyone around her to strive for their best. She was often underestimated by others, to their own peril. In her later years, she exhibited incredible strength, courage, and resilience as she faced numerous health challenges, leaving a legacy of determination and grace.
Roberta is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ellen and Robert Farmer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Denver; her three sons, Drew (Lynn), Chris (Alexis), and Michael (Elizabeth); nine adoring grandchildren; and four loving siblings Mike Farmer (Maureen), Gef Farmer (Kathy), Richard Farmer (Karl), and Marguerite Marz (Michael) who will carry forward her spirit and love.
