David Peña Hernandez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 27, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on July 9, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, David was the cherished son of Juan Hernandez and Anita (Peña) DeLeon.
David was creative, from carpentry to welding to woodworking, his favorite expression was, “Give me a hammer and I can make anything”. He was also a passionate collector, dedicating his time and care to an extensive array of collections that spanned comic books, sports memorabilia, and trains, each item holding a unique story and memory. His enthusiasm for collecting was known by all who knew him, a testament to his appreciation for life’s simple joys and the value he found in preserving pieces of history.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan (Kittridge) Hernandez, who shared a life full of love, laughter, and memories with him. David is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Juan Hernandez, Ramon Hernandez, and Rosa Gonzalez, as well as his children: Theresa, Sam, Juan, David, Jesse, Stephanie, Paul, Michelle, and Moses, along with their spouses. His legacy lives on through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. His loyal Yorkie, Tutu, was his constant companion, adding joy to his days.
David’s family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his life. A visitation will be held on November 2, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home, located at 2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904. Funeral services will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 7 W Ave N, San Angelo, TX 76903, on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 1501 W Ave N, San Angelo, TX 76903.
Pallbearers will be Brianna Hernandez, Antonio Stone, Giulia Stone, Paul A. Stephan, Logan Stephan, David Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dale Dove and Jason Williams and Kevin Shovary.
A luncheon will follow at St. Mary’s Church, where family and friends can gather to honor David’s memory and share stories of his life and the love he so freely gave. David will be remembered not only for his passions but for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared with everyone around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
