Walter (Buddy) Wallace Gaston Jr., 74, of San Angelo, was called home on October 22nd, 2024. He was born on November 23rd, 1949 in San Angelo, TX to Walter Gaston and Nona Hall Gaston.
Buddy graduated from Central High School in 1968 and was a lifelong resident of San Angelo. Buddy and Robyn were married on September 15th, 2007 in Amarillo, TX. Buddy and Robyn were a devoted couple. They have been active members of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Robyn will cherish memories of all of their special family time, traveling the country, flying, and the simple times of sitting on the back porch and being together. His grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and unofficial grandchildren were his pride and joy. Buddy had a wonderful childhood, growing up on Webster Street and Waco Street in San Angelo. He also loved going to the Gaston family ranch near Tennyson. He served in the Army National Guard. Buddy cherished his memories of raising his children in the Santa Rita neighborhood. Buddy spent many years in San Angelo as a carpenter and general contractor. He was highly sought out in the community due to his experience and craftsmanship. He also enjoyed his time working for Templeton Construction, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas Department of Transportation. His third love, beyond God and his family, was the world of aviation. He obtained his private pilot license and owned many airplanes. He built a Vans RV-9A in his carport with his son’s assistance that he used to take Robyn on many adventures.
He is survived by his wife, Robyn Gaston, his children Doran Gaston, Leslie Ashlock and her husband Ben, and Robert Skelton, his grandchildren Drew and Kate Ashlock, his brother Skipper Gaston and wife Susan, nephews Todd Burns and wife Marcela, Chris Hendricks and wife Laura, and Colin Gaston and wife Shannon, and niece Jennifer Gaston, father in law Robert Bennett, brother in law Evan Bennett and wife Angela, sister in law Cindy Larson and husband Tim, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Nona Gaston, sister Marilyn, and mother in law Marie Bennett.
A visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home, Monday, October 28th, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Johnson Street Church of Christ, Tuesday October 29th, 2024 at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, Angel Flight South Central, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or a charity of your choice.
His family would like to thank all of his healthcare team at Shannon Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, and KPC Promise Hospital. Thank you to the Angel Flight South Central pilots that flew Buddy and Robyn to Houston for appointments. He loved each of you just as much as you loved him.
