Karl Lee “Corky” Smith, age 74, of San Angelo, Texas, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 20th. Born on February 13, 1950, in Levelland, TX, to Bobby Joe and Mildred Louise Smith, Corky was a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man.
A proud graduate of Lakeview High School's Class of 1968, Corky pursued higher education at the University of Arlington, earning his Bachelor's degree. He dedicated his career to craftsmanship in cabinetry, co-owning S.S. Cabinet Shop and the Lone Wolf Pub, where he shared laughter and good times with friends for over 35 years.
Corky had two children and on May 28, 1995, Corky married the love of his life, Stacy who also had two children; together, they raised four wonderful children, creating a home filled with love and joy. Corky was a proud member of Masonic Lodge 1260 and the Suez Shrine Temple.
Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Corky enjoyed socializing, traveling, and engaging in sports. Whether playing darts, pool, or sharing stories with friends, he had a gift for bringing people together.
Corky is preceded in death by his beloved parents, affectionately known as “Daddy Bob” and “Momma Lou,” as well as his cherished grandparents, Joe and Wilma Smith and David and Della James. He leaves behind a loving family: his devoted wife Stacy; children Jeff Smith, Christyna “Tyna” Smith, Gary Coleman, and Toyha (Paul) Harper; and grandchildren Hope Jacobs, Peyton Coleman, Jade Harper, Emery Harper, Kendall Coleman, Presley Harper, Grace Tibbetts, Brady Skidmore, Lana Barrington, and Tinley Barrington. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Barbara) Smith and Karen (David) Banks.
Open visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 10 am – 8pm. A Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on October 25, 2024 in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include John Perez, Rusty Payne, James Wimberly, Cliff Prescott, JD Gressett, Bruce Backlund, and Bill Whitesell, with the Suez Shriners serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Suez Shrine or an organization of your choice. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tye Hughston and the caring nursing staff of Shannon ICU for their exceptional support.
Corky’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
