William Lawrence Thompson of San Angelo, Tx passed away October 5, 2024. He was born on April 11,1935 in Tankersley, Tx to Melvin and Edith Thompson. Lawrence attended San Angelo High School and Shannon School of Medical Technology. He worked as a Medical Technologist for several years before continuing his education at the University of Texas in Austin where he earned his degree in Pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy for many years at the San Angelo State School. After "retiring" he had many different retail pharmacy jobs here in San Angelo.
While working at Shannon, he met the love of his life, Helen Hood, who was a nurse there. They were married on August 24, 1962 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage before she preceded him in death. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter.
The church was always very important to Lawrence. He was a long time member at Southgate Church of Christ. He served for many years as a Deacon before going on to serve several years as an Elder there. He was blessed with many friends there and enjoyed getting to serve in many different areas. He was always looking for any way to help that he could. He and Helen were also able to go on several mission trips where they helped teach others about Jesus.
Lawrence enjoyed many different hobbies. He always enjoyed woodworking and made several different pieces that his family will alway treasure. He and Helen enjoyed traveling, camping and playing cards with their many friends. He also enjoyed his position as neighborhood watchman after he retired. He checked on and did many different jobs for several of the widows in his neighborhood.
Lawrence is survived by his children Mike Thompson of Abilene, Tx, Stacey Hooper and husband Carey of Kyle, Tx and Steven Thompson and wife Juanita of San Angelo. He also had 7 grandchildren: Katie Thomas and husband CJ, Shelby Woods and husband Cannon, Alyssa Hooper, Connor Hooper and wife Ashlyn, Brennan Hooper and wife Anna, Jonathan Thompson, and Meagan Thompson. He also had 4 great grandsons: KJ and Tyson Lawrence Thomas, Robby Lawrence Hooper and Etson Woods. He is also survived by his siblings Robert, Leonard, Ruth, and Harold and his brother and sister in law, John and Becky Hood. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Helen Thompson, his parents Melvin and Edith Thompson, his brothers, David, Charles and Ralph Thompson and his sisters Martha Kirby and Mary Helen Nelms.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
