Kenneth (Ken) Wayne VanZandt, 77, passed away on September 13, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas. Born on January 16, 1947, in San Angelo to Charles and Lucille VanZandt, the youngest of four brothers including Dean, Gene, and Don Lee. Ken lived a full and accomplished life. As a young man, he proudly served in the U.S. Marines before beginning a long career as an aircraft mechanic at Mathis Field. Later in life, Ken transitioned into self-employment, applying his skills and work ethic in new ways.
Ken married the love of his life, Cheryl Darlene Keck, on November 29, 1968. They enjoyed 30 wonderful years of marriage before Cheryl's passing in 2000. Ken longed for the day they would be reunited, and his family takes comfort knowing they are together again.
He is survived by his sons, Brad VanZandt and his wife Drianna, and Eric VanZandt and his wife Summer. He was a proud grandfather to Alyssa, Arianna, Zander, and Piper. Ken is also remembered fondly by his cousin Janet, and his brothers Gene and Don.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Johnson's Funeral Home from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at Parrot's Head Tavern, where friends and family can gather to celebrate Ken's life and share memories.
Ken will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of family, and enduring spirit. He now rests in peace, reunited with his beloved Cheryl. His family and friends will deeply miss him.
