Mary Lou Maxwell Prosise, of Fort Stockton, has entered into eternal rest at the age of 93. She was surrounded by her loving daughters as she took her final breaths and went to be with her Lord and Savior.
Mary Lou was born to George Washington and Cleta Belle Colbaugh Maxwell on July 30, 1931, in Dublin, TX. She had two brothers, Bill and Jerry. Mary Lou went to Brownwood High School and then went to work as a sales clerk in a local department store.
It was in that store where she met the love of her life, Joe Edward Prosise, after he completed his service in the US Army. Joe and Mary Lou married on January 25, 1955, and then moved to Fort Stockton where they became active members of both the town and their church. Together they raised three daughters, Brenda, Betty, and Teresa.
Mary Lou worked at the Melody Shop and then began work in Fort Stockton ISD as a teacher’s aide. After that, she worked as the secretary in the church office at the Church of Christ and then later volunteered with the Pecos County Hospital Auxiliary. In every place she worked, Mary Lou became fast friends with those around her and was always there to help those in need. And, if you knew Mary Lou, you know she had the biggest heart for animals. Up until her death, any animal - especially a dog - completely filled her with joy.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents, George and Cleta; and her brothers, Bill and Jerry. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Moore (Terry) of Lubbock, Betty McCallister (Barry) of San Angelo, and Teresa Roberts (Gordon) of Dallas. Mary Lou is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer Moore of Lubbock, Daniel Moore (Erica) of Lubbock, Staci Duncan (Jeff) of Midland, and Barrie Lynn Fuentes (Stevie) of San Angelo; and by nine great-grandchildren: Caleb Scott, Catrina Scott, Karisma Moore, Nova Willingham, Charlie Moore, Cedric Fuentes, Cai Fuentes, Pierce Duncan, and Victoria Duncan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to honor the life of Mary Lou will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at Eternity Funeral Home in Fort Stockton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pecos County Memorial Hospital District Auxiliary of Fort Stockton or to Grand Companions in Fort Davis.
