Serapio "Tala" Montelongo, Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024, in San Angelo.
Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM Monday, August 26, 2024, with the rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at St.Mary's Catholic Church with Father Freddy Perez, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites afforded by Fort Cavazos Military Honor Guard under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Montelongo was born April 15, 1938 in Del Rio to Serapio and Juana Montelongo. After graduating from Central High School, Tala entered in the US Army. Tala married Emma Cedillo on June 23, 1961 in San Angelo. Tala was a setup attendant for Ethicon for 32 years retiring in 2006. After retiring from Ethicon, Tala worked for the San Angelo ISD as a custodian and retired on August 21, 2013. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Tala played baseball for the Southside Lions Club. He coached his son's baseball teams when they were young.
Survivors include his wife, Emma of the home; two sons, Jerry Montelongo and wife Holly, and Larry Montelongo and fiancé Bridgett Ramon; a daughter, Theresa Welch and husband Edward; a sister, Rebecca Garcia; nine grandchildren, John Montelongo, Jerry Montelongo, James Montelongo, Ryan Montelongo, Logan Montelongo, Hannah Welch, Adyson Welch, Brooklynn Welch, and Jacob Lopez; his fur baby, Maddie; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tala was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, Adolfo Acosta, Christina Rodriguez, Victoria Gutierrez, Abel Montelongo, Jose Montelongo, Leonardo Montelongo, Jacinto Montelongo, and Mario Montelongo.
