Larry Dale Thompson, age 78, and resident of San Angelo, TX, passed away at his residence on August/7, 2024. Larry Dale Thompson was born in Ranger, TX on October 26, 1945. His parents were Lawrence 0. Thompson and Sophia Maurine Eudy. He was raised in Cisco, TX. Larry graduated from Cisco High School in 1963 where he participated in football, basketball, and track.
In 1963, he married Jody Cozart from Cisco, TX, and was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1965. After being honorably discharged as a Sargent {E5), Larry went to work in the oil and gas industry for 30 years. He eventually started his own logging and perforating company. In 1985 he married Deborah Vaughn from Quincy, Illinois and relocated to San Angelo, TX. He retired in 1998 from the oil and gas industry and then worked as a locksmith for 14 years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Deborah Thompson, of San Angelo; his three children, Gina Thompson of Aspermont, TX; L.D. Thompson and his wife, Rebecca of Waco, TX; Courtney Cheek of Abilene; and three stepchildren, Angela Jacobson and her husband Rob of Dallas, TX; Thomas Vaughn and his wife, Stacy of San Angelo, TX; and Michael Vaughn and his wife Sheryl of San Angelo, TX. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral parish in San Angelo, TX. He served as president of the San Angelo Saddle Club as well as the American Association of Sherriff Posses. He had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, camping, and horseback competitions, and found great joy in watching his children and granddaughter ride and perform on horses.
The Rosary will be 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Memorial Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
