Melba Rose Hale meet her heavenly Father when she passed away in San Angelo, TX surrounded by beloved family. Melba was born September 30, 1945, in Simms, TX to George and Eunice Johnson. The family moved to Lamesa, TX when she was 2 years old and a short time later the family moved to San Angelo, TX, where she set up her home for most of the rest of her life. In the late 1970’s she met the love of her life, Dan Hale, and they married May 17, 1980. Together they raised their only daughter, Catrina Hale Shafer, who blessed them with 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
For most of her life, Melba worked in restaurants and cleaned houses. Besides work and family, Dan and Melba committed their life to serving the Lord and were long time faithful members of Immanuel Baptist Church where Melba taught Sunday School, led out in Awana’s, served as a greeter and in any other capacity that was needed. Many lives were touched through her ministry.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eunice Johnson, and sisters, Francis Koonce, Dorthy Brown, and Mary Kreiser. She is survived by her husband Dan Hale of San Angelo, her daughter Catrina and her husband Cris Shafer of Kilgore, TX, grandchildren, Joshua Barnet and Whitney Barnet and great grandchildren, Xiana and Eviana Luckey, and Lynix and Daniel Barnett. She is also survived by her sisters, Edith Zimmerman and Wanda Hudson and several nieces and Nephews.
Her husband Dan has spoiled her and cared for her through the good times and the bad times. Her family and her church is extremely grateful for how well he took care of his bride.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home, from 2:00-4:00pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church, at 1:00pm. Burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
