Brent Thomas Newkirk, 49, passed away in his sleep the night of July 30th. Brent was a loving son, brother, and the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews. He has lived in Sonora since 1989. Brent graduated Sonora High School 1993. He has an Associate of Drafting from Texas State Technical College Sweetwater. Brent worked as a journeyman electrician with his father at Newkirk Electric for 29 years. He has worked on many residential homes, and businesses. He was well known in the community.
He gave new meaning to the phrase “It’s the quiet ones you have to worry about.” He didn’t say much. If you knew him, you would know behind that quiet nature was a very sharp, generous man. He worked hard as an electrician, but also was a craftsman who loved to build things. He was an avid gamer, which included video games and strategy board games. When his nieces or nephews visited, his game room was a popular spot. Brent always made each niece or nephew feel loved and was happy to spend time with them. He always had gleam in his eye when he tried to convince you to play his newest game. Kids gravitated toward him because he was a kid a heart.
He is survived by his parents Thomas and Barbara Newkirk, his sister Regina Estrada, and brother Kent Newkirk, sister-in-law Misty Newkirk. His nieces and nephew include Shelby Burris, Catrina Burris, Andrew Newkirk, and Cara Newkirk. His great nieces and great nephew include Kenna Hogan, Neyla Hogan, Elizabeth Fowler, and Aaron Fowler. Brent also loved his out of state aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brent is proceeded by his sister Tabitha Newkirk, his Grandparents Parker and Leta Newkirk, Rayburn and Opal Bailey, Aunt Anna Rogers, Aunt Patti Bailey, and Aunt Karen Davidson.
Brent’s passing was unexpected. He has left many family members with a gaping hole in their hearts. We are all blessed to have called him son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.
