Layne Anthony Lubke went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 24, 2024. He was born July 31, 2000, in San Angelo, Texas to Douglas Wayne and Elizabeth Lubke.
Layne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rogelio and Teresa Lizardo, his uncles, Johnny Lizardo and John L. Swanson. He is survived by his parents, and his grandparents, Anthony and Judi Lubke, of San Angelo, five uncles Ron Lubke, of San Angelo, Roy Lizardo and his wife Dana, of Tatum, N.M., Rudy Lizardo and his wife Kori, of Lovington, N.M., Luis Lizardo, of Texas and Bobby Lizardo, of Benbrook, TX; 2 Aunts, Yolanda Swanson, of Lubbock, TX, and Delia Bryant and her husband Russell, of Clovis, N.M.; numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
Layne grew up in San Angelo and attended school in Wall, TX. He graduated from Central High School on June 3, 2018. After high school, he attended Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
Layne participated in football and track during his school years. In his Junior and Senior year of high school, Layne and his teammates made the State Finales in Speech and Debate. Throughout his school years, Layne excelled in his studies and was an honor student. He wrote a short book, The Pacific War, while in grade school that was published in 2010. He also had a poem published in the Library of Congress during his elementary school years.
Layne enjoyed being with his family and friends, listening to music, and playing Call of Duty. He has had a long passion for the military, in particular he was interested in World War II. He enjoyed the many times he spent with his “Papa” Lubke watching movies and eating out. His dream was to create short military films.
Layne was a loving son, grandson, nephew, and cousin. His love and compassion for his family and friends will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed! His family would like to thank Harper-Funeral Home for all their help and assistance. To all of you that have prayed on our behalf, sent flowers and messages of condolences, shared beautiful memories, and provided meals, THANK YOU. You have blessed us greatly during this difficult time.
There will be a viewing from 8:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 27, 2024, and Friday, June 28, 2024 at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Akins officiating.
