Sherre, a lifelong resident of San Angelo, was born on June 26, 1941, to Jack and Lorene McClung. She graduated from Central High, San Angelo College and Texas Tech. She met her future husband, Max Tankersley, in San Angelo, and together raised their family enjoying many great times.

Sherre’s special skills enabled hundreds of San Angelo students to enjoy reading. Around town she was always recognized as “Mrs. Tankersley!” or “Tank” by former students and fellow teachers.
As a sports fan, Sherre cheered for her son’s tennis matches whether he was playing or coaching; she loved watching Cowboys play with her daughter and son-in-law; she encouraged her parents’ love of riding competitions. Sherre deserved the most applause for her ability to persevere after numerous health problems and always to reach for joy.
