After saving money for years, he and his wife Anita opened their first business in 1964 called the Topo Chico Bar then preceded to buy the Taxco Cafe which they rebranded into Fernandez Cafe in 1967. Juan took great pride in his restaurant and made it a point to come out from the kitchen and personally check on his customers to ensure his food was always hot and delicious. His restaurant became famous for their well-known salsa and enchilada sauces. His family continues to use his special recipes to this day at Fernandez Restaurant. In addition to owning a business, he enjoyed watching sports and running his famous football pots. He loved dancing and even won first place in a Mambo dancing contest.
