Donald G Hillis was born to William and Dorothy Hillis on May 30, 1941, in Providence, Rhode Island.
His family moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was 4 years of age. Don lived in Brooklyn until he joined the Air Force in 1959. He served 20 years in the Air Force, returning in 1980. During his military time, he was stationed in New Hampshire, Texas, Japan, Vietnam, Korea and then back to Texas again.
After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at the then St. John’s Hospital as a bio-medical equipment technician, then went to GTE as a switch technician and then to Mitsubishi at Mathis Field as an avionics quality assurance inspector. When Mitsubishi closed in 1983, he then went to work at Goodfellow AFB where he retired once again in 2003 as a Training Manager. He went on to work part-time as a recreation aide at the GAFB Recreation Camp at Lake Nasworthy.
Don had a passion for reading and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed visiting with his Wednesday morning breakfast group each week until he was unable to do so anymore.
Survivors include his son, William Hillis, and his girlfriend Patti Shore, as well as his daughter, Debbie Horeis, and her husband Paul. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cynthia Hillis, Chelsea Pehl and her husband Alex, Hanna Cain and her husband Brandon, Holly Horeis, and Heidi Horeis. Additionally, he leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Ryan Hillis, Madison Pehl, Gracie Pehl, Sadie Pehl, Ka’Miyah Hillis, Cru Cain, and Kisner Cain.
Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Dorothy Hillis, along with two brothers, Edward Hillis, and James Hillis, and his wife Marilyn Hillis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Harper Funeral Home.
