William R. (Bill) Schwartz, born in San Angelo, TX on April 24, 1940, to Stella (Wilde) and William R. Schwartz, bid farewell to this world on March 31, 2024. In 1964, he married Betty Havlak in Wall, TX. Together they raised six children on their farm.
As a young man, Bill learned the ways of the land from his father. As he grew, so did his passion for cotton farming. His life was a testament to the enduring spirit of the American farmer, marked by dedication and a deep-rooted love for family. He always looked forward to hunting, fishing, coffee with friends at the gin and traveling with his wife to all 50 states and several countries. After retirement, Bill could be found in the sunroom of his home, enjoying the sunrise or waiting for someone to walk in so he could deliver his favorite line, “when’d you get here?”. The smile on his face when telling stories of the cars he had once raced, the history of how his homestead came about and many other recaps of his adventurous life proved that he was a man who lived life to the fullest, cherishing every moment and memory.
Bill was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He served on the Wall Parish Council and was instrumental in the planning and completion of the parish hall. He was past president of Wall Young Farmers and an Area II Star Young Farmer in 1975. Bill was pivotal in developing and implementing the Boll Weevil Program and served on the board of Tom Green County WCID.
He is survived by his wife Betty; his children Letitia Schwartz (Alex) of Central Valley CA, Jill Brown (Allen) of Armstrong, Neil Schwartz of Miles, Bridget Mullin of Atascocita, Todd Schwartz (Kim) of San Angelo; his grandchildren Austin Miller (Sara) of Shiner, Laken Miller (Austin) of Kingsland, Dylan Schwartz (Brittnee) of Abilene, Cody Schwartz of Boise, ID, Brett and Drake Mullin of Atascocita, Davis, Parker and Sterling Schwartz of San Angelo; great- grandchildren Layton, Decker, Daxton and Heidi Schwartz of Abilene, Marley Miller and Stetson Freeman of Kingsland; siblings Laverne Schniers, Carolyn Strube (Jimmy), sisters-in-law Betty Joyce Schwartz, Sandra Jansa (Leonard), Lillie Havlak and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will carry his legacy forward with pride and love.
