Margetta Levelle (Pettitt) Black (92) of San Angelo, TX went to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2024. Margetta was born on February 29, 1932, in Brownfield, Texas to Tom and Maggie Pettitt. Margetta attended and graduated from Hermleigh High School in 1950. She soon met her husband, Clyde Darrell Black, in Snyder, Texas. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage before he passed away. Margetta loved to share the story of how she and Darrell shared the exact same birthday, as Leap Year babies, on February 29, 1932. Margetta spent her life working in retail for J.C. Penny. She also enjoyed an employment for 20 years at Merle Norman Cosmetics in San Angelo.
Margetta is survived by her son Rodney Black, son-in-law, Steve Fowler, her sister Zetta Merle Claxton, grandchildren and their spouses as follows: Jennifer Ensminger, Cori Miears and husband Bryan, Rikke’ Flores and husband Isaac, Kylie Chadwick and husband Tyler, Hayden Black and wife Sarah. Great-grandchildren Kezlyn, Preslee, Graye, Layne, Maren, Eden, Logan, Payton, Treasure, Noah, and Jaxon. Great-great grandchildren Bentley and Berkley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margetta was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Darrell Black), daughter Connie Fowler, brother Gail Pettitt, sister Clovis Shipley, grandson Jeromy Ensminger, and daughter-in-law Rikke Black.
Margetta was strong in her faith and lived her life as a dedicated Christian. She attended College Hills Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church and Glen Meadows Baptist Church while living in San Angelo.
Visitation will be at Harper's Funeral Home on Thursday April 4th, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at Harper Funeral Home on Friday April 5th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by graveside service at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Hayden Black, Isaac Flores, Tyler Chadwick, Bryan Miears, Logan Miears, Noah Johnson, and Jaxon Johnson
The family would like to thank the Robert Lee Nursing Center for the excellent care and service they provided Margetta over the past 3 years. The family would also like to say a special thank you to our family friend Shannan Sawyer. Shannan made countless trips to Robert Lee just to spend numerous hours, every week, loving on Margetta.
