Lorine Doris Spieker Fuessel – Child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother (G.G.ma), went to spend eternity with Jesus her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2024.
Lorine was born in Tom Green County, Texas, on July 21, 1933, to Edwin Jacob and Anna Marie Melcher Spieker. The second of five children. Lorine attended school at Averitt School and Hess-Averitt until the age of 8 years old when the family moved to Mitchell County and attended school there through the eighth grade when the family moved back to Tom Green County. Lorine graduated from Eola High School in 1950 and attended ASU for one year and returned to ASU on several more occasions.
On February 2, 1952, Lorine married Herbert Fuessel, who she met at Church at the age of 13. Herb and Lorine made their home in the Wall community where they were involved in farming for many years. They were blessed with two sons Ricky and Terry. Lorine worked first for the US Post Office, then later was employed at the IRS as a tax auditor for over 25 years. In the 1980s and 1990s Lorine spent a lot of time away from home training and teaching new tax auditors for the Dallas District. One NFL football player told Lorine once that she scared him more than the Dallas Cowboys did. She retired from Federal Service in 1995. Lorine had an interesting, adventurous life, was very creative, and people always asked her “what was she going to be when she grew up”? Besides the Federal service. She was a realtor, owned and operated a Christian Bookstore, a computer operator for an independent oil and gas company, and also at GAFB. After retiring from Federal service she worked at Mosaic and after retiring there she traveled as an auditor performing internal financial audits for Mosaic. She also loved helping with Mosaic’s fundraisers. Lorine and Herbert at one point owned and operated a Flea Market. Homemaking was a joy for Lorine as she enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and entertaining people in their home. Lorine loved music and she played the piano and accordion. She and Herbert shared much time listening to music and singing together. She was active in the Wall community in all the school and PTA activities, and especially in the Churches they attended. Lorine never shied away from any new adventure. She traveled to Europe twice, to Hawaii and visited many states here in the USA. Her latest adventure was driving into and out of Palo Duro Canyon with her two sisters.
Lorine and Herbert's greatest joy was the love they shared for their grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially sharing the love of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They loved listening to T.C., their only grandsons, storytelling, also seeing him build things. Also seeing the granddaughters come into their own God given giftings – all so talented. All holidays were always a time for celebrating and sharing with the family.
Lorine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Herbert in 2011. They shared 59 years and 8 months together. Her parents, Edwin and Anna Spieker, and a brother Eugene Spieker preceded her. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Ricky and Jan Fuessel of Eldorado, Texas, and Terry and Christina Fuessel of San Angelo, Texas. Grandchildren, Whitney and Elkin Aguilar of Houston, Lindsay and Neal Franks of Corsicana, Mandi and Jason Evans, Tiffani Fuessel, and only grandson, Terry C. Fuessel all of San Angelo, Texas. Great Grandchildren are Rheily, Addison and Laura of Houston, Texas, Lilly Franks of Corsicana, Logan, Alora and Hope Evans of San Angelo, Aubrey, Makalyn, Brantley, and Adalynn Newsom of San Angelo. She is also survived by siblings Helen Spieker of San Angelo, Clarence and Mary Spieker of Hermleigh, and Kathryn Patterson of Lubbock, sister-in-law Sue Fuessel of San Angelo, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 10:00am.
One of Lorine’s favorite bible passages was Job 19:25 – I know that my redeemer lives and He shall stand at the later day upon the earth: and though after skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God. 2 Timothy – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. To my family: It is well with my soul! Rejoice in Him!
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hospice of San Angelo and Robert Lee Care Center.
