Jon Bumann, age 80, died Sunday, March 3, 2024 in San Angelo, TX. He was born June 14, 1943, to John and Florence Bumann of Marathon, WI. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1961. On June 12, 1965, he married Marilyn Itz in Wall, TX. This marriage produced two loving children. He served his country as an Intelligence Specialist in the United States Air Force and was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious service. He was a Letter Carrier and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after thirty-four years. He was an officer in the National Association of Letter Carriers for over twenty years. He was a member of American Legion Post 572. He attended Holy Angels Catholic Church and was an usher there for many years. During his early years, he coached baseball, basketball, and football for the YMCA. Jon loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He had a woodworking shop and spent many hours making clocks, pens, delicate fretwork items, and scroll saw art. He had many loyal clients. He also made gifts for friends and charities. On one occasion he cut a portrait of Merle Haggard on a scroll saw and presented it to the recording legend when he appeared in San Angelo.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his daughter Michelle Crenwelge and husband Heath of Dallas, TX, grandchildren Jon Brandon Bumann of Denver, CO, Stuart and Connor Bumann of San Angelo, Natalie Crenwelge of Dallas, and Collin Crenwelge, his wife Danielle, and great granddaughter Lakyn Ann of Justin, TX, sister-in-law Patty Preas of Grape Creek, TX, brother-in-law Ted Zeidler of Weston, WI, numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Bumann, his sister Lois Zeidler, his parents John and Florence Bumann, and his in-laws Paul and Elizabeth Itz.
Arrangements will be made by Harper Funeral Home of San Angelo. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Friday, March 15th at 10:00am with a light lunch reception to follow.
