Arthur Norris Humphrey also known as Art and (Pappy) fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, his Master, Sunday morning March 3, 2024, at 12:12am at home surrounded by his family in San Angelo, Tx.
Art was born april 15, 1945 to Arthur and Lula Irene Humphrey in Green Forest, Arkansas and he traveled from there to San Angelo, TX then on to California where most of his childhood was spent.
At 20 years old he became a member of the United States Air Force. The next three years he spent at Webb AFB in Big Spring, Tx. He rode the bus from Big Spring to San Angelo on weekends and visited family and he attended church where he met his future wife (Naomi Morrison). Her family also lived in big spring, so he began riding back to the base with her family. They fell in love within 6 months and were married in San Angelo TX in 1966.
Art was known for his smile. A friend told him that he loved to see him smile because his whole face smiled. He was a quiet person, and you could always confide in him and know that it was going no farther.
He became daddy to a beautiful daughter, Cheryl Jeanine, in 1967.
In 1968, he was stationed at Okinoerabu Jima, Japan and he assigned to a remote location for 1 year. Upon returning to the states in 1969, he was discharged honorably. He got acquainted with his daughter between picking him up at the airport in Midland, TX and driving home to Big Spring.
As a trained auto mechanic in the air force, he continued the occupation at Farris Pontiac dealership in big spring.
Having another beautiful daughter, Kara Denise, in 1972, then moving his family to San Angelo in 1973.
He continued as a mechanic at Schuch Pontiac dealership. Then moved on to GTE(now Verizon) until he retired.
In his spare time, he loved to restore vehicles and one of his last is a 1959 Chevy Apache pick up that he never got to finish.
There was a time that he brought a Pontiac home that a customer had burned the engine. Art bought it and rebuilt it. His father-in-law (John Morrison) came over and asked who's car he was working on. Art told him, “some pretty little blonde" and left it at that. About a week later, he took Naomi to it and handed her the key and said, " here's your car".
He is preceded in death by parents and in-laws. He is survived by his beloved wife (Naomi) of San Angelo, TX; his 2 daughters Cheryl Humphrey and husband (Da Tinney), Kara Cowen and husband (Eddie Cowen).
