Jimmie "Dod" Clayton James

Jimmie Clayton (Dod) James was born October 31, 1945 in McCamey, Texas the son of Jimmie Tommie James and Edith Faught James. On Friday, February 16, 2024, he entered eternal life with his wife of forty-two years by his side.

He grew up in Rankin, Texas and graduated from Rankin High School. May 1969 he graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Science in Range Animal Science. Following graduation he was employed by the State of Texas as a Meat Inspector. Prior to moving to Sonora in the late 1970’s he owned and operated a Culligan Water Softener Company in Carlsbad, NM.

In Sonora, he worked for Canyon Air Drilling before working as a contract pumper for Sutton Brothers. He continued to work in oil and gas production and retired as a Production Foreman from EnerVest Operating in September 2019.

Dod was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. He loved fishing with family and friends at Lake Amistad. A trip to Ruidoso, NM in the summer was an annual event for horse racing and day trips around the area. Attending the sporting events of his grandchildren always put a smile on his face. He had a great sense of humor and loved to pull a practical joke on many occasions. A funny story was always ready to share. He loved life and he loved his family and friends. He will be missed but if you knew him thoughts of him will bring a smile to your face.

Dod was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Michael O’Connor; brother Stanley James; sister Judy James Jones.

Surviving are his wife Roberta Russell James; daughter Bree James and her children Grace O’Connor, Liam O’Connor, Jack O’Connor; son Scott Garrett (Donna) and their children Kristin Garrett Duncan (Koy), Levi Garrett; sister Linda Wallace (Libb); many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation with lunch will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 319 Mulberry St., Sonora, Tx from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Graveside services will follow at the Mertzon Cemetery, Mertzon, Texas at 3:00 PM.
