Gilberto "Mingo" C. Solis

Gilberto C. Solis, 81, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Thursday February 15, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born on November 29, 1942 in Brady, Texas to Eduardo and Adela Solis. 

Gilbert worked for many years in fabricating for Wendland Manufacturing, specializing in Quality Control. He went on to marry Sofia Zapata and the two had five children during their 60 years together. Gilbert was a loving family man who enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, camping, and his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He will be dearly missed. 

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Adela Solis; brothers, Ramon Solis, Guadalupe Solis, Martin Solis, and Paublo Solis; sisters, Enriqueta Solis, Maria Ramos, and Lydia Solis; grandson, Jacob Solis; and great-granddaughters, Addilyn Pena and Stratlyn Dohn Pitcock. 

Left to cherish Gilbert’s memory are his beloved wife of 60 years, Sofia Solis; children, Richard Solis, Mario Solis, Cindy Hernandez and husband Jenio, Sebastian Solis, and Edward Solis; 15 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Elida Pena, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A rosary for Gilbert will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday February 20, 2024 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday February 21, 2024 at Johnson’s Funeral Home with interment to follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. 

Serving as pallbearers are Braydon Pitcock, JB Solis, Michael Solis, Mario Cruz Solis, Timothy Hernandez, Alyssia Solis, Aaron Solis, and David Solis. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Rico Solis, Steven Solis, Matthew Hernandez, Lisette Hernandez, Lindsey Pitcock, Gabriel Solis, Jolie Solis, Jordyn Solis, Traegen Pitcock, Granger Pitcock, Avery Pena, Ayvin Pena, and Jacob Solis. 

The Solis Family would like to thank Meals on Wheels, Angels Care Home Health, the Allen Family, and the Calusio Family for their kindness and care they’ve shown Gilbert and his family.
