Mary Madelyn Crawford Moore of Christoval, Texas, age 93, passed from this life on January 1, 2024. Though her physical body is at rest, her legacy will extend for generations because of her steadfast Godly example, acts of love, and kindness displayed to all.
Madelyn, the daughter of Paul and Sleety Crawford, was born on January 12, 1930, in Stanton, Texas, and was raised in Christoval and San Angelo. Madelyn was a model wife and mother. She, and her late husband Barney Moore, were pillars of their communities and churches throughout their adult lives. Madelyn was an active member in churches of Christ at Christoval, Iraan, North Chadbourne (Fairground Road, San Angelo), Golf Course Road (Midland), and Eisenhower (Odessa). She was a graduate of San Angelo High School (Class of ‘47) and the San Angelo Business College. After raising three daughters, Madelyn worked alongside her husband and managed the Iraan Insurance Agency. Barney and Madelyn were happily married for 63 years. Madelyn’s greatest contribution to this world was her continual love and encouragement she bestowed on her family, friends, and community. Her unwavering love and servant’s heart instilled confidence in others. She exhibited Christ-like qualities throughout her life and was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. Madelyn abhorred television and loved crossword puzzles. She was a daily Bible reader and prayer warrior.
She is survived by her three daughters: Rhonda (Mike) Turk of Christoval, Sherri (David) Elkins of Christoval, Mary (Dick) Murphy of North Augusta, SC; 14 grandchildren: Doc (Patsy) Turk, Zane (Lori) Turk, Kip Turk, Keva (Robert) Fowlkes, Shay (Mandy) Elkins, Justin (Carrie) Elkins, Dave (Katie) Reed, B.J. (Katie) Elkins, Sarah (Sam) Brown, Philip (Jaime) Murphy, Joshua (Amber) Murphy, Paul (Lindsay) Murphy, Diana Murphy and Austin Murphy; 25 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Barney J. Moore, her sisters Paula Ray Crawford, Bea Ward, Betty Kennemer, Joyce York, and her great granddaughter Tracey Turk.
The family will receive friends at the Harper's Funeral Home Thursday, January 4th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A celebration service will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 2 pm at Christoval Church of Christ. The family will gather for a private burial at the Christoval Cemetery.
