Allamay Rose Schafer was born in Del Rio Texas on September 11, 1942, the only child of William and Matilde Schafer. She was raised in San Angelo, Texas and graduated from Lake View High School in 1962 and attended Angelo State University. She worked in the microbiology lab at Ethicon, a Johnson and Johnson Company for over 30 years, she retired in 2000.
Allamay was an avid golfer and played in several leagues, she loved her golfing buddies. She was also active in the Genealogy Club, Metal Detecting Club, Historical Society Czech/German Club, and Lake View Ladies Luncheon group. Allamay had a “Sisterhood” of friends for over 65 years who became family as well as a host of other friends.
Allamay leaves behind her beloved nieces Della Doss, Becky Gatlin and Vaundaugh Chenault, from the DFW Metroplex, Cam Schafer and Margaret Ann Schafer both of El Paso, Texas. Also left behind are her “Sisterhood friends” Alice Parrish, Liz Montez, Gloria Kent, and Marion Dannheim. Her Lake View Ladies friends and a host of other friends all adored her.
Preceding her in death are her parents William and Matilde Schafer, her two brothers William and Martin Schafer and Harold and Johnny Halley. Also preceding her in death is her longtime friend Gayle Hovorak.
All who knew Allamay saw her as an outspoken, loyal, kind, compassionate and “bigger than life” friend. Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 5pm-7pm and Services will be at the Cowboy Church at 4015 North Chadbourne, at 2 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, Allamay would want donations to be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 501 St Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee. 38105.
