Wanda Jean Holik, 91, of Miles went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in Ballinger, Texas.
Wanda was born on a ranch near Sterling City, the third of four children of Aaron and Maida Carpenter. Wanda became cognizant at an early age of what was vital to running a household and enjoyed helping her mom cook and keep the house spotless. Her biggest desire was to get married and have children. On July 4, 1949, Wanda married the love of her life, a farmer from Wall, Walter Holik. Together they created a home filled with love, hard work and a true feeling of family. Wanda was baptized at the Koberlin Primitive Baptist Church in San Angelo a few years after she was married. She loved growing a beautiful flower garden and was known to provide flower arrangements to family and friends. Walter and Wanda put an emphasis on their children doing well in school and never missed any event where their children were involved.
Wanda could often be heard above the crowd cheering her athletes on at their games. She was a “room mother” for all 22 years of her children’s school careers. She also held every office from Treasurer through President of the PTA. Her efforts were so admired and appreciated that she was awarded the Lifetime PTA Award. On September 14, 1972, a new and exciting phase of her life began with the birth of her first grandchild. Through the next 51 years, she welcomed, loved and cherished each of her 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Maida Carpenter, her husband Walter of 61 years, her son Clay, and her son-in-law Bob. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Albina Holik, two brothers Aaron and Jimmy Carpenter and three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Wanda is survived by her sister, Helen Carpenter, her sister-in-law, Marcella Carpenter, her children, Walter Holik and his wife Hariece, Fraron Holik and his wife Jacy, Kathy Wells, Danny Holik and his wife Darlene and Toni Holik. She is also survived by her 13 Grandchildren, Shaelynna, April, Julianna, Quinten, Laura, Ryan, Mallory, Elizabeth, Grace, Clint, Charly, Cliff, and Chad; and 18 Great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home. The graveside service will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. William Rosser officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Quinten Holik, Ryan Holik, Mike Bowman, Allen Gould, J.R. Matthews, Justin Duyck, Scott Steely, Clint Holik, Cliff Holik, Chad Holik, and Brady Clark.
The family would like to thank all of Wanda’s caregivers throughout the last few years, especially Sara Martinez who cared for her in an assisted living home in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals for The Elderly, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
