George Deck, 88, of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023. George Bernard Deck was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1935, the last child of Carl A. and Rose E. Deck (nee Keck).
He graduated from Easton High School in Easton Pennsylvania. He joined the Military in 1956 bringing him to Goodfellow AFB and San Angelo, Texas where he met and married Virginia (Gayle) McPeek. They had three children together and eventually divorced. Upon discharge he joined the Texas Army National Guard and retired from the guard at the age of 60. He was a San Angelo City Fire Fighter for 15 years and, upon graduation from Angelo State University, became a science teacher and coach at Christoval Texas. He eventually coached at New Home, Trent, Sierra Blanca and Miami, Texas as well.
George eventually retired in Lubbock, TX. He loved to sing Country Karaoke at Adolph's Grill and Bar in Lubbock and will be missed by many of his friends there.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Rose Deck, brothers, Charles "Bud" (Thelma), Joseph (Rosemary), Paul (Lois) and Carl III and sisters Rose (Nicholas) Lansche, Elizabeth (John) Kolchak, Catherine (John) Fagan, Helen (Ralph) Singley, Bernandine (Robert) Wilhelm and Emma (Francis) McCabe as well as one daughter, Stephanie Gail Mizelle.
His beloved Casey Cora Cassidy, (seen above in the picture with George) also preceded him in death on May 31, 2023.
He is survived by daughter, Debbie (Greg) Gravelle of San Angelo, TX and son, David of Granbury, TX, one sister-in-law Rose (Carl) Deck of Port Charlotte, FL, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Hospice of San Angelo, Rio Concho Terrace and Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Ballinger for helping with the care of George in his last days.
