Richard Lynn Henshaw passed from this life to the next on September 4, 2023. He was born May 21, 1946, to John Henry and Rachel Smith Henshaw. He was the youngest of 5. He spent his early years working the family farm. He had very fond memories of working on the farm.
Richard graduated Arkansas High School in 1964. He regularly attended the reunions and enjoyed seeing old friends. He told stories often of his high school years. After high school he attended junior college in Texarkana. He always said it was the best semester of his life thus far. Richard joined the US. Air Force around 1966, where he would join his brother Luke.
He served in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He served for 3 years in the Air Force. After the service he went to work for GTE and would eventually retire from GTE in 1999. He started his career at GTE as a system installer and began working his way up to the general office.
Richard was an avid skier and was a member of a ski club Dallas. Richard also held a private pilot license and was an avid scuba diver. He talked often about his trip to Jamaica where he was able to scuba dive. He loved to travel. Richard and Karen enjoyed traveling in an RV that Richard bought at the age of 74 and enjoyed traveling to see their daughter Kinsey and her husband Will in Mississippi. The other love of his life was his grandchildren, Waren and Russel Yocham.
Richard married Diana Robertson in 1978, From this union came daughter Kinsey in 1980 and Amanda in 1985. Diana preceded Richard in death in 2001. Richard then met and married Karen Gallas and were happily married for 22 years.
Richard is survived by his wife Karen, Daughters and sons-in-law, Kinsey and Will Varas of Wesson, Mississippi and Amanda and Bryan Yocham of San Angelo. Grandsons Warren and Russel Yocham of San Angelo. Sister Glenda Walker of Texarkana and brother John Norman Henshaw of Texarkana, Sister-in-law Gloria Henshaw of San Angelo along with numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Special friends C.R. Borbion and Kurt Kasner.
Richard is preceded in death by wife Diana, son Clinton Ryan, Parents John and Rachel Henshaw. His sister Mary and Husband Robert, Brother Luke Henshaw and brother-in-law Floyd Walker.
Richard will be missed for his humor and smile.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5:00pm–8:00pm, at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside service will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 9:00am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
