Rosa Amelia Graces, 92, died peacefully with her daughter Heidi, by her side. She was born in Lima, Peru on January 19, 1931, one of four children to Cludomiro and Augusta Garces. She was educated in Lima and graduated in Catholic school systems.
In her mid-twenties she met Dr. Walter Meyer, whom she married after a whirlwind romance. They traveled, driving from Lima, through South and Central America ending up in Texas making San Antonio home. In 1966 they moved their family to Austin where they opened Hansel and Gretel restaurants and reared their three children.
Her favorite times were with her children, particularly summers in Port Aransas. She loved cooking, knitting, reading, and sewing. Second only to her children were her three grandchildren. Her great grandson Clark also had a special place in her heart and always made her laugh and smile. It did not go unnoticed that her family was her life and passion.
She was preceded in death by Dr. Walter Meyer, her son Walter Peter Meyer and her daughter Erika Maria Meyer. She is survived by her daughter Heidi Meyer Brooks and husband, Conoly. She leaves behind grandchildren, Allison Rauschuber and husband, Adam, Sterling Curry, Mary Burkett and husband, Parker, and great grandson Clark Rauschuber.
The smell of fresh baking, hand sewn clothing and her thick Peruvian accent will not be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her.
